EARLY BUSINESSES OF VINCENT - A LOCAL HISTORY “Early business of Vincent; a local history” was launched in November 2010 to much positive acclaim. Many of the early business owners attended the launch and were reunited with old friends and neighbours after many years.
One exciting aspect of this book is that it includes reminiscences and photographs from many people whose families ran the butchers, bakers, barbers, chemists, corner shops, and the other businesses that made this such a vibrant community.
The local history staff have been conducting interviews and collecting photos for over ten years, and much of the book has resulted from these. The heritage staff also provided research assistance and the book includes some business premises which are listed on the Town’s Municipal Heritage Inventory.
There is now an amazing collection of local history available in the Local History Centre within the library. The Centre is open from 9.00 to 1.00 on weekdays, and from 2.00 by appointment.
